So much is happening that it is very hard to keep to my 500 word per day limit. Yesterday also saw us steam alongside the Mertz Glacier.

It stretched as far as the eye could see and the ice bergs that have calved from the front kept a raptured audience on the deck, including my good self, for most of the afternoon. Again, the ABC folks are allowed to send back photos so have a look as I am only going to do a disservice trying to describe the ice bergs. Have I mentioned how much I am enjoying this? We have crossed the Antarctic Circle which means two things: the sun doesn’t set and Neptune is scheduled to visit.

While the first makes us all a little kooky, the latter may very well make us ill. Why there is a tradition to cover those who have never crossed the Antarctic Circle in food scraps, often old rotting food scraps, and make them kiss a fish I do not know. However it is a rite of passage, and so I shall grab my penguin shower cap, and when they rip that off I shall have dipped my head in olive oil to try and prevent the smell from pervading my hair, and then worse, my cabin afterward. I am hoping that due to the presence of the VIP’s perhaps this voyage will be a little tamer than previous years……
