It’s almost 1:30 in the morning, and I’m so tired I can hardly see.
The CTD is due to land on deck minutes before our shift ends at 2 am.
If we start sampling then we have to see it through to completion which will mean I won’t crawl into bed until closer to 3 am. Right now we are trying to figure out how to bribe Murray (who is driving the winch) to slow the retrieval down so that the CTD comes in on the new shift so we can go to bed. Elizabeth has been popping into the control room every 5 minutes to check the progress and it doesn’t look good. We are going to sample. The problem is that once you start you wake up, splashing ice cold water on yourself tends to do that.
So while I could pass out in my cocoa now, I’ll be wide awake at 3.
I’m at sea, I have nothing to bribe anyone with. Someone please send chocolate.
