Allow me, if you will, to go slightly off-topic. I know this is an Earth Sciences blog but I’m a lover of all things science, and this video made me go wow! Yes, yes, it is essentially Physics, but it’s so well put together and informative in an easy to understand way that I kind of just had to share it (after consulting with the blog’s co-editors!).

It’s a video about the Higgs Boson, the tiny particle that forms part of the scientific research at CERN*, the particle collider in France and Switzerland. What is it? What does it do? How are we going to find it? And why does it matter?

The video is made by Jorge Cham of PHD comics fame.

*one of my friends who did a geology undergraduate degree with me worked at CERN for a year. That counts as a connection right?
