As a geologist who looks at the solid Earth, I often view plants as a nuisance because they have a habit of covering up the interesting things (the rocks), however they have played a major role in the development of our planet as we know it.
Tonight at 7.30pm.(Canberra Time), ABC1 will air the second episode of the BBC series -“How to Grow a Planet“, in which presenter Iain Stewart tracks the development of plants over geological time and how they have interacted with the Earth to give us the planet we now know. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable and informative program and well worth watching.
