Your average archaeologist? (http://bestofthe80s.wordpress.com)

I’ve commented before on the portrayal of scientists, or their science, in the movies. Well what about Indiana Jones as an archaeologist? The very funny folks at McSweeny’s have put together a post titled:

BACK FROM YET ANOTHER GLOBETROTTING ADVENTURE, INDIANA JONES CHECKS HIS MAIL AND DISCOVERS THAT HIS BID FOR TENURE HAS BEEN DENIED

The selection criteria for tenure requires, amongst other things, that the candidate can:

– demonstrate suitable experience and expertise in chosen field,

– be nationally recognized for an effectual program of scholarship or research supported by publications of high quality,

– meet professional standards of conduct in research and professional activities of the discipline,

– establishment of an appropriate record of departmental and campus service.

Even for those who haven’t had the pleasure of witnessing the hoop jumping that is tenure track, have a read here.
