I quite often refer to an organisation by the name of 350.org, which advocates to limit (and as is the case now), to return carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere to 350ppm.
350.org was founded by Bill McKibben in 2007, and has run a large number of high profile campaigns, including the “Connect the Dots” campaign and the hugely publicised campaign against the Keystone XL pipeline.
For me though, Bill McKibben’s article, “Global Warming’s Terrible New Math” in Rolling Stone Magazine was the most influential. (I wrote a blog post, which pretty much just paraphrased the original article – the article really does speak for itself).
McKibben has recently been touring the USA, speaking to people about this article and raising awareness of the need to limit the use of fossil fuels. Excitingly, for his first international leg of this tour, he will be coming to Australia!
From the 4th to the 9th June 2013, Bill McKibben will be travelling to Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane to present his “Do the Maths” tour.
Tickets are pretty cheap but do vary by location. You can find out all the info on Facebook (the website didn’t seem to be up and running yet…). If the number of people who have “joined” the event on Facebook is any indication, you’ll want to get your tickets quickly!
I will certainly be there will bells on!
